Year 4 became adventurers last week spending two days and one night at Camp Taiwan. For many children, this was the first time they had ever stayed away from home. So…as well as an exciting buzz in the air, there was also a feeling of nervousness as the buses pulled away from TES on Wednesday morning with 4PJ and 4GR on board and on Thursday morning with 4EBC and 4AL. However, the children were excellent and embraced all the exciting activities that the camp counsellors had planned for them. For some children river tracing was their favourite, whilst for others it was archery or the giant swing and for other adventurers it was rock climbing or the ecology session which involved searching for living things including shrimp, lizards and dragonflies. The camp fire was also a big hit with children singing songs, playing games, roasting marshmallows and feasting on s’mores next to the fire. Staying in a tent was a new experience for a lot of children and this seemed to be particularly fun after lights out! Overall, both children and teachers had a great two days. The children were fantastic at taking part in the activities; often pushing themselves out of their comfort zone (and teachers too!) and working together as a team. Many children wanted to stay an extra day or two and are already looking forward to going again next year!
