One of the goals in all high performing schools is to develop a love of reading in our learners. This year BPS will foster this notion for our children through many avenues including the BPS BOOK WEEK. Four exciting events will take place over the week.
Author Visit: Jon Agee, a well known children’s author is visiting our school on Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th November. Our students will all enjoy a story with Jon. In addition, our year 1 -6 students will participate in a workshop. We would like to thank our PTA for generously sponsoring Jon’s visit. The PTA have also purchased some of Jon’s books which will be for sale. If you would like Jon to autograph the book personally he will be in the Library on Tuesday and Wednesday from 3pm – 4pm. We are excited to welcome Jon back to BPS.
Read in:. During the week each class will read for pleasure. Children can bring in any book they choose, in any language. They may also bring a few appropriate comfort items, ie a favourite teddy bear, small pillow, snack etc. Classroom teachers will designate a time over the week (check the blog) to allow children to read for pleasure. Teachers will also model reading for leisure too. The goal is to emulate what we as adults do, grab a favourite book, cosy up on the couch and have a coffee while we find joy in a book.
Dress up Friday (17th November): Students are invited to come to school as a book character. Staff are excited to see the many book characters represented in our school for the day.
Visit the book fair: Each class will have opportunity in the week to visit the PTA book fair in the library. Please allow your children to bring some money in an envelope to buy books from our lovely PTA. The money will go back into the school and the children will have a new book or two to keep them occupied.
